| | The Oconee Farmers Market opened in 2004 in order to promote and contribute to a sustainable and vibrant growing community in Oconee County, Georgia. The Market caters to local growers and consumers in northeast Georgia by offering fresh, locally-grown produce and other agriculturally-based products. Our goal is to offer healthy, fresh produce, promote the small farmer and agribusiness in the area, and to provide a friendly community atmosphere that enables a personal relationship between the producer and the consumer. Starting in 2008 the Market is now sponsored by the Clarke-Oconee Cattlemen's Association, a non-profit organization that supports local livestock production and agriculture education.
Many of the items offered at the market are unique, and include environmentally responsible small growers and farmers, chemical-free, heirloom, and fresh-picked produce. We also serve as a venue for support of agriculture in the county and surrounding area by educating consumers and the general public on important issues such as farmland protection and direct marketing of agricultural products. Currently the market includes more than 20 vendors and backyard gardeners offering items such as scuppernong grapes, homemade breads, cakes, pies and scones, fresh flowers, jellies, jams, and preserves, homemade soaps, new varieties as well as traditional varieties of fruits and vegetables that enhance the quality and uniqueness of our market.
Please come out and enjoy the Oconee Farmers Market in downtown Watkinsville, behind the Eagle Tavern, and you will feel good when you leave with your fresh produce and a taste of all that Oconee County offers. Contact Karl Berg at oconeefm@yahoo.com for more information.
